Candice Olson - TV's Most Divine Designer

Candice Olson: Our Choice for TV's Most Divine Designer

If home is where the heart is, then do prettier homes make prettier hearts? We think so. That's why finding proper guidance to prettify your home is so crucial. Otherwise, a potential design disaster could leave you feeling more fugly on the inside than your mutilated decor looks on the outside. Ew!

Of course, hiring an interior designer can be very expensive, which leaves many people -- many naive people -- to turn to television for ideas. However, lovelies, please don't be duped! There are many so-called designers, even good designers unwittingly trapped within inane budgets, who just further propagate chintz and fug, leaving you at risk of being caught in the lowers levels of Home Depot hell. To help you avoid design purgatory, we set ourselves on a mission to determine the best home designer on television.

We watched hundreds of episodes of home design and makeover shows and shrieked from countless pizazzters* on 'Trading Spaces' and 'Changing Rooms', sighed at the unnecessary beiging* of America on 'Designed to Sell', recoiled at numerous D.I.Why?!s and witnessed enough fakeovers* on other shows to pursue class action lawsuits against design fraud.

Fortunately, after our extensive TiVo trek, we're delighted to share with you our choice for the best interior designer on television: Candice Olson (pictured) of 'Divine Design' on HGTV.

Olson is a class act through and through, neither pretentious nor pushy, and consistently delivers amazingly tasteful, lively transformations. We wholeheartedly salute her, her delightful demeanor, lovely humor and outstanding sense of design and commitment. She also exudes a wonderful philosophy: "I firmly believe that if your environment works for you and your family, it translates into a better life." We couldn't agree more.

'Divine Design' airs Saturdays at 4PM and 9:30PM (E/P) on HGTV. Read more about Olson in a lovely article we found in the San Diego Tribune.

pizazzter -- a design makeover initiated with the intention of adding "PIZAZZ!" to a space, but ultimately turning out to be a hideous disaster

beiging -- the act of making something bland

fakeover -- a makeover that isn't that much of a makeover at all or that doesn't offer any fresh ideas (On many shows you'll hear the same stale advice given in many ways: "Move the couch, get rid of all your crap and make everything beige." (Ahem, like on 'Secrets That Sell')
